i was entering a freeway on an entrance ramp in 3rd gear when my FI light came on and the bike died completely. When i attempt to restart it it tries to crank but note when i turn power on after key is inserted i dont hear the fuel pump priming. Is there a quick fix for this? i guess i should check the fuel pump fuse first then maybe unplug the fuel pump if i change a blown fuse to isolate the fuel pump? any help would be appreciative.

Yeah, you want to check the fuel pump & FI fuse first...if that is blown, it might be because your fuel pump is going bad, and could be drawing more current as well. If the fuse is ok, test your fuel pump. Check your fuel pump relay as well. I had the fuel pump go out on my old FZR1000 around 33K.

I had the same thing happen when I first got my power commander and I was trying different maps. if you haven't messed with anything, then what Derstuka said should have you on the right track. If the fuses don't do it, I don't think swapping the pump is that hard. If I'm not mistaken I did it when I put a new gas tank on my bike. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the pump inside the tank connected to the float arm, etc?

k well here is what i seen so far. i had a blown fuel pump fuse 20amp. i installed another one the bike ran took it only down the street and when i switched to 2nd gear half way through throttle movement it quit again and died. Pushed it home and then found another blown fuse again. That makes me wanna think its the fuel pump also just makes me wonder why it doesnt really do it in first gear. I didny pull high rpms though in 1st. I just priced the fuel pump assy how expensive 347.78. bike has 20k on it

found the fix. thanks guys for the help. After stripping the bike fairings off i found a wire harness chaffing above the left heat exchanger the harness that ties in with the headlights etc. So if u ever have any same symptoms i would check that harness for chaffing. Just gotta take the shielding off and see what i have left for the wires.
