Power Commander and Pipe

Dumb question. Can you install an aftermarket pipe without using a powercommander, and have the bike run right?

 

Yeah it will run fine. I ran mine for 6 months before putting a PC on without a problem. I do recommend te PC it really smoothes out the bike.

 

this is a dumb question, but what is a power commander and where can i get one? I'm rebuilding my bike and it has a Yosi pipe on it and I don't think the guy before me put a PC on it.

 

A power commander connects to your stock ECU it mounts under the seat and controls you fuel mixture. Some advance timing but as far as I know the ones for VFRs do not do this. You load a specific map for your exhaust or have a shop custom make you one on a dyno. It smoothes out your bike and adds a few ponies probably 3-5. Fuel injected bikes come from the factory set to optimize the mixture for emissions not performance.

 

Buy a Staintune exhaust, they're specifically designed for stock applications. I'm really satisfied with fit, finish and sound.

Does the VFR have a secondary air pulse system? It was called the PAIR on my SV.
It shoots some extra air to aid combustion of any excess fuel. What that yielded was some loud pops and backfires when aftermarket cans were installed.

If there's no secondary air system, you could skip the PC for a while.

But then, it's like the saying goes, while your at it...go ahead and get it all!:hungry:

 

Has anyone tried a Stainetune Fuel Injection Control Unit? If so what were the results and was it worth the money?
