interceptor starting problems flywheel? please help

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a 1984 vf750 honda interceptor this is my second one, did my share of work on this model over the years.....I changed my starter 2xs off ebay, voltage regulator 2xs off ebay, but the same problem occurs the bike starts when cold, seems like some resistance from the starter trying to turn, but it starts when cold and runs great... then when i turn the bike off when its hot it wont start up, it seems like the starter is having trouble turning the flywheel, (more resistance after running) i am about to change everything electrical on the bike including the cdi boxes and wiring harness, just dont want to do that all if there is a problem inside the motor u know? Please let me know if anyone has any ideas of how i might solve this problem....

    Thanks for your help!

Fix the bad cableing. You have a bad ground, bad connection, bad cable, bad battery or some combination of the above. It would be damn rare for a heat expansion related drag on the starter.

    i narrowed down the problem

so the bike starts when cold, when hot it wont start too much resistance on the starter, after it was hot i decided to disconnect the plug on wires going to the starter solnoid and i jumped the solnoid and the starter was turning with no problem, so i think there is some sort of direct short or problem with the cdi boxes im going to change them out and see what happens, i am happy that the motor seems to be good at this time, thanks for everyones help, and please give me imput if anyone has any other ideas, i will let u know how things turn out, this site is quite cool

You got 2 used starters from E-Bay? They might be just as old and worn out as your old one. I'd rebuild the best of the 3. More than likely, your orig. one. You know it hasn't been sitting in a mud hole and just cleaned up to sell. Your Honda dealer will have the kit. It is easy and only takes a few minutes to install the kit. Just be sure to sand the area where the brushes touch the armature until you are down to nice, shiney copper. You might also have a bad starter solonoid. But last time I checked, those things cost just under a C-note...ouch!!

I agree that I would check the resistance in the cables and check for good grounds.
