G'day all, I have a stock 6th Gen VFR, and am looking at fitting after market pipes. I am wondering if a Power Commander is necessary, or will the Honda ECU be sufficient? I am happy with the performance of the bike, but want to unleash the deeper note of the V4. Any suggestions on slipons that fit with factory hard cases? Thanks...edmk.
edmk, I don't know too much about which pipes work with the hardbags but I've heard Lasers work pretty well. As far as a power commander goes, most slip on manufacturers claim their pipes are designed to be used with the stock ecu configuration. I think this is true with the "spud" or baffles in. The pipes with baffles in are not much louder than stock but the exhaust note is clearer. The back pressure is not much different than stock. I put a PCIII in before I got pipes to improve throttle response which it worked perfectly for. Now I have Leo Vince pipes and my baffles are currently out so I can adjust the fuel curve to adapt to the open pipes. It is set for stock pipes with O2 eliminators now and I get a little pop and rumble when I roll off the throttle to a stop. Sounds pretty cool but I probably should adjust it!!!
Thanks for the info Alter ego. I guess I'll look at purchasing the pipes and then wait to see if the ECU can cope...
