Pulled the trigger. Sold my 2002 GSX-R 600 on Tuesday and bought a 2000 VFR yesterday. Bike rides totally different than my suzuki but I like it. Pulls away from a stop much more like a VTwin than an inline4. you can tell it has some grunt down low that the gixxer didn't have. The steering is way heavier but I just need to get used to it. I though not having a steering damper would make it handle like a cbr but thankfully it handles just fine. My friend has a 2000 F4 and the handlebars feel like they turn too far in a corner. It has a D&D pipe on it which sounds surprising good. My gixxer came with a D&D and I promply swapped it with a stock pipe. No pics yet but once I take a few I'll post them. Asked the seller about the R/R issue and he told me hed has never had a problem with it. He also told me his 98 had that issue and one of the headlights got soo hot it melted the plastic cover in front of it. Valves are dead center of spec, has a little over 12K miles, was yellow...now repainted ferrari red with white stripes. Has a cowl, corbin seat with backrest, soft luggage racks, tank bag, stock seat, I think that's it. Bought it for $4,400.

I think I did notice a tiny bit of oil on the header gasket...should I be scared? Guy swapped out the headers for 98' headers to ditch the O2 sensor.

Congrats on the 2000. I have not regretted my choice for a second. Love every minute I spend with her.

Welcome to the site! Sounds like you got a good deal if the oil isn't a problem. You should post up some photos of your bike!

Congrats on your purchase. - Your finding out why I never took to 600's. Normal street riding is a bit of a PIA with the peaky 6's. I am so used to V4s that low/mid power is a must for me.

R/Rs -- well damn near all vfr's will have R/R issues once/twice in their lifetime. Keep an eye on it.

I dont get the re-paint thing maybe it was just personal taste. Look like you score some good stuff on top the deal too.

Enjoy, that 5th gen can be made to hang with the best in the twists if you want.

    Good luck,
    MD

    Welcome to the site.

Sounds like you found yourself a great bike. Keep an eye on the oil on the gasket. I'd clean up the oil and see if it re-appears. That way you know the true source of the oil and that it's a "new to you" leak.

Post up some pics when you can.

Does this mean I can expect a wiring issue on my 08 VFR? Will I also have a head gasket leak? I thought I was getting a bulletproof engine....

Honda did a wiring update on their models, check your dealer for recall issues. Never heard anything about a head gasket leak.

Dude you have a brand new ride - I wouldnt worry too much. Even with any minor hicups, no reason it shouldnt go 100k miles and beyond.

    Good luck

Good to know!!! I would hate to think I'd have those types of problems anywhere up to 30,000 miles. What fuel should I run?

checked the gasket again and no leak...thank god. Idle seems a little high, when it warms up it stays aroung 1,600rpms...not sure if/how to adjust it. Other thing I noticed is there is a head shake and the bike pulls to the right when I take my hands off of the bars. I took a quick check when I got to work and didn't see any weights on the front tire. Could this be the problem?
