the problem im having i wanted to check the rear brake pads.so i tryed to remove the pad pin.it wouldnt come out so i took the bike to the bike shop.the guy heated up the caliper he could notget it out.then he charges me 35$ for nothing.i think the guy that had the bike before me must have put lock tight on the pad pin.i got the front ones lose, but the back one is a bear.i may have to take off the caliper all together.any advice would help.thank you.
I've never had to deal with a tight pin like that, but here's my $.02: WD-40, or Zep 45 if you have access to it; maybe put the vice grips on the pin in between the pads, if there's space (which obviously might mar the shit out of it) and try turning it from both sides. Oh yeah, apparently methyl alcohol or nail polish are pretty good at dissolving lock tite. rear pad pin man thanks i will give it a try what is zep 45 . if i damage a pad pin not a big deal i have a extra one i just dont want to take off the brake lines and the rear wheel i may not have a choice the hex head bolt does have some damage tho . funny thing the front pad pin came right out. thanks for the info will try after work today
Zep-45 is a spray-on lubricant that service technicians use, it's supposed to be better than WD-40. You won't see it on the shelf anywhere, but you can buy it online. Oh, and my previous post was supposed to read "methyl alcohol or nail polish remover can dissolve Locktite." A lot of solvents might work, but keep it away from rubber parts.
