Where can a guy source out some cams for a 1983 VF 750? As Honda has discontinued them are there any out there? Do I just part the classic out?

Any and all suggestions/comments would be appreciated.

Look on ebay. I found my set of HRC cams there. I see stock ones there all the time, sometimes there are new ones too.

you can get them re-ground too... that way you can choose different specs for them. There's a place in Australia that does this

My preferred source is Shadbolt in Canada, but there are also several places in the US that do this work. Megacycle, Webcams, DRP, just to name a few. This is a great idea because you can get 'new' cams with a bonus of free performance at the same time.

    Mmm... HRC cams... bastage...!!

Are they meant for the 750 or the 850 race motor?

Thanks for the replies. To regrind the cams for performance, what height/duration would be recommended?

I'd suggest going with a 0.365" lift, 240° duration with 105° lobe separation. Any more than that would require performance valve springs. Shadbolt probably has one similar, they are an excellent source for info on the subject. Just don't let them talk you into "the stock VF1000R grind" as it doesn't increase the performance very much. For some reason they try to push that on everyone.

Thanks Jamie, Shadbolt was a plethora of information(and cheap too).
One thing though they recommend replacing the rocker arms. Is this truly needed? Can the originals be used??
Trying to source out the rockers are almost as bad as the cams themselves.

It's probably not a bad idea, but certainly not necessary (especially if you have a top end oiling mod). It just shows you how people who are not knowledgable on V4's will make a big deal out of a wee little bit of info. There are places that can hardweld and regrind your stock rockers. Replacing with more of the same doesn't do you any good.

What did they quote you for all four cams, if you don't mind me asking? I priced some from Dave Dodge, with rocker arms came to about $950, for Stage 2 750 cams.

They quoted me $288.00 for all 4. Welding is extra and custom grinds are extra as well. Rocker arms he doesn't deal in. Rocker arms up here in the Great White North go for $62.00 ea that makes for a pricey buy just with those. I'm thinking $950 isn't that bad of a deal for cams and rockers.

Its all in what the bike's worth to you and what your willing spend.

I dunno, but they fit. Didn't do that much for performance, but the bike doesn't sound like a sewing machine anymore.
