Okay, newb mechanical question 1st. On the '86 700F right side crank case- What is the large bolt and what does it hold in place? When I purchased my bike it had a minor scuff on the crank cae from where it had been dropped. With the new paint, the cases don't match and the scuff stands out big time. I want to pull both sides off and refinish them to match a little better, but I don't know what that bolt hole in place. If I pull that out the whole motor isn't gonna fall apart is it?

Next, Ive started comming up with off season ideas for improvement, and I'd like some comments on the ideas...
    1. I think this is a no brainer, I plan to pull all the plastic and polish the frame and swing arm.
    2. I NEVER carry a passanger so I plan to cut the rear triangle mount completly off the frame. this will remove the rear foot pegs as well as the exhaust mounts. I then plan to move the cans up to where the cargo bungee bars are on each side just under the rear plastic. I can route the exhaust up and follow the contour of the bike so that it opens up the side view of the rear swing arm, and wheel...
    3. This one I bet I get some heat on... With the view opened up by moving the cans, I'm thinking of removing the center stand. I KNOW people pay good money to have one, but I rarely use mine and looks wise I think it would help.

None of this is performance minded. It's an '86 I'm not going to race it, and I don't plan on selling it. So what do ya'll think?

Well let me try to help you out. I assume you mean the clutch side cover on your bike. If so there is a large about 1 to 2 inch cover usually silver with a nut in the middle. This cover can be removeved to gain access to turn the crank shaft for motor maintance. As for the other modes do what you want that whats great about bikes you can customise them.

perfectionists are usually disappointed in the long run; JUST RIDE THE BIKE !!

Scuffs ain't nothin' and aluminum alloy frames are beautiful as they are and do NOT need polishing.
