Why would you buy a VFR over a CBR?

CBR = Too much power, to tweaky, not comfy, want to get out of first gear from time to time, no hardbag option. More respect from insurance companies with the VFR.

You know, come to think of it, I have no idea. I imagine the charms of the VFR over any RR are probably lost on the members of this forum. I think I'll see what I can get on a trade-in for a CBR1000-RR tomorrow...

    Sorry - I couldn't resist

Anyone can roll up to the dealer & ride off with a CBR in whatever color & be like everyone else. The VFR is a totally different machine with a different kind of purpose. You really can't compare the two.

& once a person hears a VFR with a Staintune on it, they usually understand after that.

    KC-10 FE out...

The CBR is nice, fast and fun but the VFR is nice, fast, Fun and comfy to ride for long periods of time.

as an aside. I park next to Buel sports , CBRs and 919s and I get the most compliments.

All that and comfy to ride and two up to boot... No contest. VFR hands down.

    a simile...

    think of it like this...

to ride a CBR is like riding a thoroughbred racehorse. your the jockey all hunched up, hanging on like no tomorrow, and your mount is going like the wind, and thats what he's best at, hes great at the track and is highly strung
and demanding that the rider always pay attention tto the task at hand-which is - going flat out.

now think of the VFR as a range horse and your a cowboy, you sit tall in the saddle, you can gallop, or canter or trot, stop and smell the roses, haul gear,
handle more varied terrain, go longer distance and ride her all day without complaint.

so the question is, are you a jockey or a cowboy?

horses for courses i think :stickhorse:

I have both - and both have their merits. Although, since buying the CBR, the VFR has been put up for sale and not on the road since.

Won't you help rescue my VFR and get it back on the road in the hands of another capable rider? The CBR has been way too much fun.

I wanted a bike to attack the twists for hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of miles. And not have to go the the chiropracter after its over.

I would love to add a new CBR1000RR to the stable for some local twisty sorties, but no way could it handle the multiday romps in the mountains.

With the bike I built now I have a damn good compromise. A sportbike for the long haul.

I've owned CBRs in the past. But as I got older the need for a comfortable sportsbike became greater. So I would buy a CBR but it'd be a second or third bike.

The VFR is the best of both worlds. Sport handling and long distance comfort.

Good input everyone! I have been kinda debating between the two. I lean toward the 25th Anniv VFR beacuse I don't see any around here AND because I own an 83 VF750F. So it would be cool to have both in my garage, side by side, old and new.

I'm 46. I wondered about the riding positions of both bikes. I assume the VFR is better than the CBR over the long haul..?

    my .02

Any model VFR is the best description of what a GT motorcycle should be.

Smooth, powerful in general, very well balanced, a distinctive exhaust sound and oh yeah Joey Dunlop rode one for a long time!

Because the 600RR looks like it has a butthole from behind with that single exhaust....same with the 1000...older 1000 that is

VFR is like a BMW (car) and a CBR is like a Porsche.
I'd take the Porsche on a short fast drive in the mountains or on the track. But, if I was Driving long distance the Beamer would be the better choice and still be sporty.

im 45 and i sold my last full on sports bike, a 2005 R1 about 2 years ago.

basically it was too demanding on me. it was hard on the bod, which is
now savaged from years and years of riding 'wrack like' sport bikes. The most annoying bit i found was my neck, i had to crane it up all the time to see thru the top of my visor which i just found uncomfortable & distracting. if a bikes not fun to ride then your on the wrong bike so i went out and got the most upright sport bike i could find- a Kawi ZRX 1200! i believe this is called over compensating but at least it was a hoot to ride.(and comfy) the VFR is a compromise of the 2 i think.
