Recently picked up my '02 Gen 6. Previous owner had fitted Leo Vince alloy system with removable baffles. Other mods included a K&N filer. Sounds real nice and bike performance is awesome but as a newbie to the VFR world I have no benchmark for comparison. My question is: Other than the obvious difference in sound what are the pros and cons (if any) of having the baffles fitted or removed?
in my experience it is just louder with some more power. If there is a PCIII too, then your gas mileage is probably crappy or at least worse. I have the LV carbon system with the baffles removed. Consider eliminating the 02 sensors and the PAIR valve and you will see even better performance. As far as the baffles go, I dont know!! I took them out within 5 minutes of receiving the cans in the mail
thanks...I dont have the PCIII, I have good fuel consumption (46 MPG) last check and not sure if O2 sensors have been eliminated. I have been doing a lot of reading on this site about various mods. Correct me if Im wrong are you suggesting eliminating the sensors but not fitting an PCIII or do these 2 mods go hand-in-hand.
I have heard varying opinions here. Some say that once you have done slip-ons, an air filter, and eliminated the 02 sensors there is enough different to the bike that a new fuel map is needed or strongly beneficial. Others say you can run these mods and the bike will run fine. I can tell you that adding a PCIII will smooth out your throttle response and give the bike a little more go-go but it will clip about 10 mpg of fuel consumption right off the top...
