    Hi guys,

I am testing a red VFR from 99 in Belgium. The bike was well maintained, regular service and overall engine sounds good. The think is that it has already 65000 km. The owner seams to be careful with it and I am counting on a responssable behavior for all the motorcycle life.

He is asking 3000 euro for it and I have to invest 500 more in kit chain front tires and revision.

What do you think wold be a fare price?

He's offering me also this second hand equipment. What do you think about the prices asked?

Helmet BMW, system 4 with additional summerspoiler and carrying bag : 95 euro
Helmet Shark with 3 additional visors (one new) and anti-fog insert : 75 euro
BMW goretex suit (trousers+vest), model Seattle with additional protectors : 255 euro
(new price 1.132 euro), gloves you can get for free with the suit.
Boots SIDI, waterproof goretex, never used : 85 euro (new price 198 euro)
Leather jacket RICHA with EC protectors : 50 euro
Travelling tankbag GIVI, magnetic, expandable, with raincover : 45 euro

I appreciate a lot your oppinion. I live in Belgium!

    Bogdan

Howdy Bogdanb; I would not buy a used helmet, the chance of it fitting you properly is
not very good. As far as the other clothing and boots, make darn sure
it fits you properly,if you are not knowledgable on the proper fit of
this equipment, bring someone with you who knows about it. Then
whatever fits you make him a package deal offer for all the
equipment that you want, try not to pay individual prices for each
item. AS FOR THE BIKE; In U.S that would be approximately
40,000 miles. In my opinion thats a little high, but if the bike has been
well maintained, especially oil changes and ridden conservatively my
belief is that it should still have some decent life left. However if
you are going to ride the bike like a cave man and dont plan on
doing much maintence ,you should probably stay away
from it. The price of $3000 dollars, which I believe is pretty close
to 3000 Euros sounds in the ball park for the states. Happy hunting

I don't know what bikes sell for in Euros but here in the US, I'd consider a well maintained VFR for $3000. I paid $3750 for mine a couple years back with 35000 miles. I have since taken it to 55,000+ which is several kilometers (don't feel like looking up conversion) I wouldn't sell my bike for less than $3000 and only if I had a really good replacement... I believe the Euro is worth quite a bit more than the $ right now, though but I don't know how that trickles down to bike pricing...

Just as info: 1 Euro = 1.553 US Dollars.

    So a € 3,000 bike is about $4,659.90. Plus an additional € 500 ($776.50) for tires and chain/sprockets.

Reg's bike has about 90,000 km on it right now, so that speaks volumes about the longevity of the VFR.

I would not hesitate about the mileage, only the price.
