    Hello All ...

first post, first VFR, long time lover of the V4

So I picked up a semi beat up 86 750 with a custom purple morph flame paint job ( looks better then it sounds I swear ) with 11.5K for 800 bucks

so after a quick rebuilding the carbs I got her to run right ( at least on idle .. till i get tires, new chain and redo the brakes it's VERY unrideable)

so A few questions about the bike for some owners out there..

Does the " throttle pipe" go all the way out to the bar end? on mine it ends at the start of the screw in bar end .. with the " foam" grips it has now the throttle sticks VERY badly .. just wondering if I need to replace the grips AND the pipe.. or just the grips.

after it got warm all the way it began to idle a bit rough .. and would randomly start to drop RPM's like it would stall .. a quick blip of the gas and it would be fine for a few more mins. any ideas?

Since I'm in denver CO I set the pilot screws to 3 turns out ( 2.5 per the manual for stock , plus .5 more for the high altitude ) I also may have set my floats too high.. I realized today that I set them to 7mm.. when they shoudl have been 9mm... should I pull the carbs and reset? ( 7mm was for the 87's one line off on the chart... opps ) I've not gotten the carbs synced yet but plan to do that as soon as I can ride her to a shop .

also it seems to have a tick .. maybe even a knock . I'm PRAYING this is not bottom end but I'm wondering were all these gen VFR's a bit noisy ? might just be an oil thing ( it sat for 2 years and I've not replaced the oil yet .. gunna do that next week when I have work free time .. I'm not riding it so not gunna blow it just sits in the garage right now )

my rear shock preload adjuster seems to be " stuck " can this be repaired? rebuilt ? or mayeb I just need to try a bit harder .. the local junkyard has a 86 750 frame that is in PERFECT shape with the shock the adjuster turns liek a dream.. got told 100 bucks for it .. I might do this later if I cant fix mine

anyone had any luck recently getting ahold of " VFRchuck " ?

I'd like to get new inner panels and maybe a whole body work set ( to repaint stock over the winter .. but I want the inner panels now )

anyone got any parts for an 86 ? ( inner panels, rear disc , tank rubber pieces, maybe a few others )

I believe that your pilot screws need to be turned in, as turning them out makes the carbs run richer. That would explain the rough running as it heats up. If a quick blip of the throttle clears it up for a few minutes, they are pretty close. Probably turning them in the extra half turn would do it.

I always need to think about this, but higher altitude equals less atmospheric pressure and less oxygen, so you need to decrease the amount of fuel, i.e. lean it out. Somebody correct me if I got this bass-ackwards, please.

If it was me, I would wait and see how it ran with the higher fuel levels (7mm versus 9mm). And change the oil ASAP. Old oil can have a lot of sulphuric acid in it, so every time you run it, the acidic oil gets distributed to all of the engine components.

Oh, welcome to the sight, by the way!

thanks Speed...NJ is a long way to ship to CO ...

Tho it seems like a good deal in a lot of ways .. I dont think I'm all over it at this point ... maybe after I get things in line more I might reconsider if you still have it then.

well everythign I read says to take em out a half turn for altitude

however with higher then "stock" floats I might have to turn it back in to make up for that mistake .

Thanks for the input Lgn001!!! :)

koorbloh I'll hit ya up this week bout the parts :)

anyone else have input on my other questions?? I'd really like to have her running and rideable this week !!!

600 plus shipping? Not a bad deal. Even it its not running.

I scored this one for $400 plus shipping from FL to OR for $675, no title, not running:

more crap ended up in the garage than I planned on (moving from a 3 bedroom w/ no garage to a 2 bedroom w/ garage)

give me until like Friday to get this crap sorted out, my tools put back in order, and my bike up on the stand
