Help!, bike is screwing up and im out of state!

Story - left early this morning to meet up with some people about 2 hours away, bike was acting just fine. filled up and off to WV. pull out of the gas station and less than a mile down the road the bike stalls. maybe vapor lock, pop gas cap open, runs again for about 80-90 miles to the next break. same thing dies a mile down the road. open tank, nope doesnt want to fix it this time. let it sit for a minute, then its fine for another 90 miles, and dies right in front of a gas station. hmmm maybe i got some really bad gas. top off tank, put a little cleaner in it also. hay seems fine now. get to the next stop 100 miles away, work fine all the way. until we start again, it dies a few miles down the road. let it sit, open up gas cap, good for another 60 miles. then same thing after the last stop. WV mountains 400 miles from home isnt the time i need this!!

Check your fuel filter. I had the same symptoms years ago

on my '86 750. Always carry a spare fuel filter.

I think the best clue is you just got gas. My first poke at it would be to drain a little fuel from tank and drain the bowls and see if water or more likely rust water comes out.A little bit of water goes a long way in messing with a bike and it has happened to me before just as described, about a mile after a fill up it choked, coughed and passed out. :thumbsup:

 

This sounds an awful lot like what wrestler was just experiencing, though his issue was more intermittent and the first time around it was water. Check for a pinched vent hose to the tank, then check for water.

You say that all you have to do is vent the tank and you are fine. This is a classic sign of the tank not being able to breath. As gas is used it creates a void in the tank through negative pressure. The vent hose lets air get in as gas is used. Its more of an issue when the tank is full as the negative pressure can increase much more quickly and stop the pump from being able to pull the gas. It is either pinched or clogged, either of which should be a very easy fix.

 

well long story short thanks to a awesome honda dealer in Bellaire, OH i got a new fuel pump and everything is fine now. more on this later, but now riding!
