Hi all, I’m thinking of swapping over the Thermo Switch for a 85C (185F) one in preparation for my upcoming summer.
I read somewhere that the Thermostat also needs to be changed for a lower temp rating or the Thermo Fan will run most of the time. Kind of makes sense as the stock Thermosat starts to open at 80-84C and fully open at 95C.
    Any thoughts fellow VIffers ?

I'd personally leave it alone. If you feel you need the fans on, why not simply wire in a switch to the fan switch sensor.

Sure, an idea. Just would prefer it to be automatic.

104C/219F fan engagement for the stock set up seems high all considered. Japan is a hot country I'm sure the Honda engineers have got it worked out.

I hired an 08 CBR600RR in Thailand a few years back, saw the gauge at 114C/237F !!

you are over thinking this - VFR's run hot - that's just the way it is. If you want then fitting a manual switch to turn the fan on isn't a bad idea.

Coolant under pressure of the rad cap will not boil until ~265F. Temperature should not go higher with the fan on, but may if you're sitting and idling.
One thing you can do is keep the rpms up a bit so coolant is circulating at a faster rate. Riding more than 30mph will help immensely too.
You could also change your coolant mixture from 50-50 to say 60-40 water to coolant as water transfers heat better than ethylene glycol.. in a hot climate that may help, and I assume your freezing temperatures will never go low enough to actually freeze. Check chart on coolant jug..... if you can go 65/35 or even 70-30 for freezing temps in your area.
