Hey everyone, I just picked up my new to me 2003 VFR800 with 18,000kms on it. The previous owner I'm discovering was just a rider not a biker. Meaning he got on it and rode and then put it away without any maintenance, droppped it in his garage a couple of times and was just a neglectful dumbass I picked it up for an OK price $4K cdn. I've changed the coolant, brake fluids, done the snorkel, pare, flapper mod and over the winter I plan on upgrading the RR. It has had an upgrade or recall RR installed by Honda for free the PO tells me but I'm planning on installing either a SH847AA if I can find one cheap enough or just installing a FH020AA with a wiring kit from Roadster Cycle. This bike is not going to be my only bike it'll probably be for a couple of trips each year once this Covid BS is behind us so I'll probably ride it 10-15k kms each year if all goes as planned. Having said that would the FH020AA be sufficient for my use or should I absolutely hold out for a SH847? I know the stator gets a break with the 847 and I really don't want to fry my stator, the only add ons will probably be a GPS and maybe a USB plug for charging my comms or a cell phone. So to the guys that have installed the FH020AA has your stator packed it in? Or alteratively would the SH775 work better? I've read it's limited to 10,000rpm? Any advice would be appreciated thanks!

Can't say I'm an electronics expert with RR's but..... heard that the SH series regulators are beneficial. I see nothing wrong with an FH either.... however,
one can find used FH020AA's from later model Yamahas (FJR 600watt stators, etc.) and these did not have issues. Recently found out Polaris/Kawasaki uses the SH series.
All of them I'd say are more than adequate for the stators we have. I put an FH020AA on my Gen5, what I do recommend is the Roadster Cycle harness as it is far easier than making your own, and has better wire... more cost effective in the end if you add up what you need to make a harness. I did not do crimp only to the stator wires, I soldered them as well and heat shrinked.
