I don't know anything about the Honda Riders Club, but I have to agree with BB that AAA sux. I have dealt with the dozens of times for other people stuck on the side of the freeway in either freezing cold or blasting heat waiting for AAA to arrive which usually took hours. But I knew how to get around it for the poor sods stuck.

So they don't cover Recreational Vehicles. Well, mine is a commuter. Hardly an RV only bike. With 123,000 km on it and only a couple trips, I think I can safely say the vast majortity of time was commuting.

    Drewl,

Hope it all works out for you. Why is it that most bike shops are closed Mondays. I think that sux too.

I joined HRC just for a ride from Seattle and back to Laguna for a WSB. That and a spare R/R... On arrival Honda had a really great parking area for members near the Dunlop bridge. Two bigass semi vans and a method of having them stash your stuff. Laguna Seca can get hot in mid Summer. The Honda display had free water. Everywhere else on the place water was not for free. I guess one could drink out of the toilets but much better IMO, just to join up..

BTW, in Texas is it agin the law to not have free drinking water.

The BBB for the "supporters" is being sued for selling upgrades.

Monday am I call AAA to get the tow set up. The shop opened at 9 and I wanted to be standing there when the door opened.
No such luck. It took me 45 minutes to explain the whole situation over again, prove that I paid to upgrade, and mention that I had been a member for 25 fucking years and maybe they could hook me up(little towing humor there). So again they agreed to waive the 4 day waiting period and get me a tow truck. Gee thanks.
By 1030 sharp I was at the shop.
While waiting for the tow truck to show up I decide to be proactive and call the shop and let them know what is going on. I explained the symptoms and the guy says, "Hmm, what year did you say that was?"
    2000.
Yeeeaaahhh, uh...we don't stock parts for those. It will take about 4 days to get anything.
    FOUR DAYS?!
Yeah, we order parts from Honda warehouses.
There's nowhere local to get parts?
    Not really. No.

PPFFFFF. OK. I'll get it there anyway and you can look at it and we'll go from there.

Make sure the parts dude knows he can source the part or parts from any of the Honda warehouses. Most parts guys IMO, really don't give a rats ass about much but being able to stand there and be infuckingcharge and if the parts warehouse they are used to sourcing doesn't have the part, it's tough shit.

I agree. IMO bikes shops should be like WalMart and stay open 24/7 and when they aren't working on bikes they could get some sewing machines going and make Tshirts to sell to the Chinese.

    Where was I?
About 1030 I finally rolled her off the flat bed into the shop. I showed the service adviser what was going on and handed over the key.
Never had to do that before with the bike. Sad.
I went out into the show room and farted around for a bit. They have lots of new and used bikes there. I touched all of them. Spiders, Goldwings, CBRs, Vulcans, Connies, and of course the VFR1200. I talked to the sales guy for like 40 minutes about it. He said he had played with the demo for a few hundred miles and really liked it. He told me he had owned an older VFR but didn't know anything about generations. I think I surprised him with how much I knew. I even talked to a couple of customers about it. I should have had them take my commission off my bill.

About 1130 or so the service adviser comes out and tells me they narrowed it down to a fuel cut off relay. They were able to bypass the relay and get it started, so that had to be it. He said his mechanic was going on lunch and would look around town to see if anyone local had the relay on hand.
So I went to lunch too. I hit the Sonic next door and walked up and down the street to look around(Bakersfield is a shit hole by the way). About a half hour later I am back in the shop. The service adviser walks up to me with a little bubble wrapped black thing and says, "Guess what."
    What?
Some guy ordered this very relay back in October and never picked it up. It's all yours.

I don't know how many of you believe in God, but I had a few people praying for my safety and favor in getting back on the road. I am convinced God knew I would need that relay, so He put it on reserve for me.

10 minutes to pop it in and button her up. A couple extra minutes to check the R/R to make sure it wasn't going to fry the next weakest link while riding through the middle of the Mojave Desert(where I spent the next few hours of my trip), quick test ride around the block...I have the keys in my hand and Helmet strapped on!

I rode the rest of the 500 miles without incident or hiccup. Got home about 26 hours later than planned but not really the worse for wear.

I have to thank Reg for sending out the word and trying to get me some info and keeping track of my wayward butt.
I have to thank Long for offering to come get me or send me parts or whatever else he could to help.
I have to thank some dude "Bruised Lee" or sommat from Tehachepi who recommended the shop.
I have to thank Fred Cummings Motorsports in Bakersfield. They kicked butt for me. They really did. They went out of their way to get me back on the road and didn't even gouge me for the parts and labor.

If you ever break down around Bakersfield, get over to Fred Cummings.(Just be sure to break down on a Tuesday through Saturday)

    Thanks guys, you RAWK.

Well, I know YOU believe in God.

And I now know you have a fuel relay.

That pretty much closes the case, since you are now home after no doubt indulging in dubious behavior, if your time spent with me is any indicator. And you've written a nice little thread where you managed to draw out the suspense

    Well played Drewler.............you RAWK

And what's 27 extra hrs if you make a friend or two along the way?
