    Hey gurus,

just finished 4 hours of in and out with an engine for my 84 1000 interceptor off ebay. after changing exhaust collecter we still couldnt get it to fit so i took out the old yardstick and did some cypherin and yea no wrong engine.
Rocker boxes are about 2 inches wider than my stock engine, the valve covers are black not aluminum gray, and the mounts are totally wrong. its stamped 998 or whatever. i need to sell it and tear down my motor i guess. But how do i figure out what i bought?
    thanks for any ideas/suggestions.

Where did you buy the engine from? Is your Interceptor an "F" model or the "R" model?

The engine should have a number stamped on it, maybe on the top of the clutch cover? The model code for a VF1000F would be SC15 plus a heap of other unnecessary digits. What is on the "new" engine?

rear rocker box hits frame on left side. the mount is only about a 1/4 inch off. im gonna have tig welder buddy modify one spot in frame and put her together!! ill take some pics for entertainment value, and maybe someone else can benefit from this frankenstienian adventure.
