Hey there, so i have my bike stored out in a buddys shed (It's wintertime and i have no other covered place to store it to protect from snow) And i've been starting it at least every week to make sure the parts keep working and stuff. But my buddy went out to start it for me, then tells me that he tried starting it for a while but it didn't work. So i go to check on it, turns out the bike was out of gas...and he killed my battery trying to start it. So i charge up my battery again and put new gas in but it doesn't kick over..just keeps trying to start to no avail. Any ideas? It's also cold as balls outside, so that might be part of the problem.

How long has it been stored with the same gas? Also do you have your exhaust and intake covered? It doesnt take long for little critters to nest up.

The gas thats in there now has been in there for about 2 weeks now i'd say? And before the gas ran out it had been in there for around 2 months, with starting it every week on the gas. Didn't have any problems until my friend tried starting it and it when apparently it ran out of gas (or someone siphoned it out) and no they aren't covered. I've never seen any mice or anything out there and i assumed it was so bloody cold they wouldnt want to move from where their homes are now into my bike

Mice love to get into the airbox and exhaust. I would check for spark on your plugs and then make sure gas is making it to the cylinders. Trying to crank it until it is out of gas could have sucked some crud into the works.

is it trying to crank or is it just silent when you push the button? your started could have gone out by trying to turn it over for so long or so many times. if it is trying to turn over and you just arent getting it started then i would check the battery first. Sometimes a battery will be faulty and cause it to not start even after you have charged it. If the battery is good then check your plugs for spark if still not turning over then i would take it to a shop and have them diagnose the problem. If you would like then they can fix or you can fix it yourself for a few bucks less by avoiding the labor. It is also a good idea to cover all entrances when you prepare for winter. It only takes a few minutes for rodents to find out that there is less wind in an exhaust pipe and or airbox and they can do major damage. Just cover the holes with aluminum for or something like that and then you can easily remove before you ride again.

No mice in your case but I tried to fire up mine one last time just before Christmas and it acted like a pig. MY son was standing at the ass end of the bike when it finally came to life and got drilled with a couple of hundred sunflower seeds! It was like a tailgunner gone bezerk in a flying fortress! I laughed my ass off while he cursed me. I had a sack of seeds for feeding the chickadees that got ransacked by mice. I had to take the mufflers off to install a centre stand anyway so I shook out the few remaining seeds. Needless to say everything sealed up now.

I'll have to check for mice, my friends actually found a mouse inside their house so that might be the problem. The starter is NOT silent, you can hear it try turn over but it never actually tries to start.

I would plan a day, put some temporary heat in that shed to take the frost off the pumpkin (as they say), pull the tank and air cleaner off and have a gander in there for a source of the issue. There could be frozen water in the fuel line preventing the gas from getting to the float bowls.

Or you could find something like this! The little critters love to set up house under the carbs where they can chew on the power couplings and piss in the valley.

You may need to do a little of this too, to clean your not so happy plugs. BTW, this little heater (35,000 BTU) warms up the shop in a jiffy but watch out for fuel vapors!!

BTW, How cold is , "cold as balls"? I see that it is +19 F at the moment which is cold but not the -11F we are dealing with.
