For the past ten years I have used Bridgestone tyres exclusively, on a variety of bikes. I started off with 045's then 057's then 020's I allways found them quite good with the exception of the front tyres cupping, I usually get 9000 miles out of the front tyre and 5000 out of the back, so I'm not especially hard on tyres.

When Bridgestone brought the 021's I naturally progressed to those, 'big mistake' I found that the front tyre wore out faster that the back one, and by 2000 miles it was completely finished, I was astounded, but have since found out that it's happening all over the world and my tyre fitter will not stock them any more, because he's sick of the hassle with them. So I had to decide which tyres to use then. One tyre which seems poular in the UK is the Mitchelin Pilot Road 2, so I thought I'd try these, however it seems that these tyres seem to attract punctures and some people have been averaging two punctures per tyre, why this should be I don't know. I eventually decided to fit Avon Storms, at the moment I am still scrubbing them in so I can't pass comment on them.

    Tyres to use

Well, I made my first post on this forum, but I see it went down like a lead balloon.

Avon Storm is the way to go. £140 a pair and as good as anything out there. Miles better than the 021's IMHO. I used to be a fan of Bridgestone but not any more. There are plenty of better tyres out there in the UK.

Michelin PR2's are fantastic in the wet or dry but at over £200 a pair........
Pirelli Strada are excellent too but again around the £180 mark........

Storms will last as long as both of the others and have had rave reviews here in the UK. Give them a go, you won't regret it.

BTW, I am only over the water from you.

First, welcome to the site, Plasma.

I have been more than pleased with my Continental Road Attacks. I will replace them with the same when they finally burn out.

BTW, your post probably occured while most of us in the states were still in asleep. That may explain the lack of responses. I just got up myself (7:00 AM on the east coast). When I want an answer and more dialogue, I usually try to post threads at a "strategic" time, like mid AM or early evening (US time) in the hopes that more people are logged on and see the post.

    Hope this helps....

I have yet to replace my stock Dunlops, but I was planning on going with Michelin Pilot Road 2s. It sounds like they have good longevity, and I am more on the touring side of sport touring.

I don't really care for the Bridgestones. I have yet to try the Mich's. However, I have had great performance from the Dunlop Qualifiers. I now have a new Dunlop Roadsmart, which is waiting to be installed, for the front. I hope that it is just as good, if not better, than the Quals.

BTW, Welcome to the group. Thanks for joining us here.

I have only used a couple different models of Brigestone and don't really feel one way or another about them. Currently I'm tryin Pirelli Diablos. It's my first go with them. The feel is pretty good right now. They seem to like to track a line and I have yet to feel any slippage. They are still not quite scrubbed in as much as I like so it's pretty good that they haven't slipped yet. I was told by someone that usues a lot more Pirellis than me that I should have gotten the Diablo Corsa or some such but I just got what was on sale. when these tires wear out, if nothing is on sale, I'll be going back to the tried and true Road Attack from Continental.

I gotta throw in a vote for the Metzeler Z6 Roadtech tires.
I have been progressively harder and harder on them and I'm pretty impressed.
My peg feelers aren't just scratched, they are demolished!!! (about 8/10th of stock lenght now!)
These tires hold a nice line line and I cant believe that a sport "touring" tire will allow such agressive cornering and also long tread life!!!

Phatman PilotRoad2's are working nicely for my commute and weekend fun. no flats/punctures here. They track terrific over bridge grates, groved pavement, bad pavement in wet or dry. I'm very happy with them.

I am more than satisfied with my Continental Road Attack's. If for some reason I decide to not use them again, I will be getting Metzeler M3's.

    KC-10 FE out...

Unless you track day try the newish Pilot Road Road 2's, the turn in is slightly more progressive than the Powers but seem to grip just as well and last much longer.

Been super happy with the Avon Storm ST's. Have close to 8000 miles on the Blackbird's set I used for the trip to New York and I'm back commuting on them again. The back tire EASILY has another 2 or 3k miles left on it.

VFR runs Pilot Powers right now. Probably will be putting a fresh front Power dual compound this summer.
