Water temp...third gen

Hey guys, I don't have the stock gauges on my bike, but DO have a temp gauge which has programmable warning and danger lights. My problem is that I can't find actual numerical temperatures to program in. The service manual doesn't list such things, nor does the owner's manual.

What should be considered a warning level, and what should be considered dangerous? Also, is it fairly normal for a VFR to reach 210 and activate the fan at a stoplight with air temperature at about 60F?

the main overheating danger on a VFR is from a failed temperature switch that turns on fan, and this is a common fault.

maybe set warning light at around 220 or so?????

engine thermostat begins to open at 190 degrees.

 

My fan comes on about 210 according to this Trailtech Vapor computer. I guess setting the warning to 220 and the danger to 230 might be OK?

i was thinking that any temp much over the fan-turn-on setting (210 or above) would need your attention.

 

OK, one more question. How often does your fan turn on at stoplights? Is it unusual?

The 93 (I used to have) and the 97 both turned on alot at lights if I get stuck in stop and go traffic, and it doesn't have to be very long. Sometimes in the summer three stoplights is all it takes.

Sometimes I think the 97 runs a little hotter.

Then down the road I go and it cools down again.
