Only had this bike couple of months, but when I first got it could feel a definite extra surge when the Vtec kicked in,but last few times I have tried it,I can hear the engine note change but no perceptible, surge, any suggestions?

Was engine up to normal temperature? VTEC does kick in unless up to temp, 65 C/149 F.

Sometimes I get this but it seems to me that it depends on the position of the throttle

Thinking of it that way, it is true that the harder you twist the throttle, the more you'll notice the hit. If I'm being lazy through the RPMs and the VTEC kicks in, you can hear it, but there is no real kick at all.

Don't panic - just next time you go out find a safe place and once the bike is good and warm really open up the throttle in a lower gear - 3rd or 4th - if the bike is behaving you should notice a serious change in progress.

I'm with Gweglez on this - it really depends on how you are riding. If you only slowly up the revs, you will not really notice any sudden kick of the extra power. Certainly on amble mode on the autobahn it is easy to get sucked in by the higher speeds of the passing traffic and especially in 6th gear not really notice the transition until you look down and spot you are nudging 180km - so somewhere along the road those horses definitely woke up!

These bikes really need to be worked hard from time to time - just watch out for spoil-sports handing out performance awards! Enjoy.
