voltmeter

got my voltmeter. trying to decide where to tap into for the wiring. where did you all tap into? I measured the voltage at the battery and the tail light, and there was .5V difference. that is where it's easy to get at. .5V difference probably won't be a big deal....thanks.

 

I ran mine through a relay from the battery. The relay is run through the Blue Sea fuse box. The difference was negligible when I measured it.

 

where you get volt meter?

 

lascar 1200 from amazon. it was about $30.

 

You can pick up from any ignition on live wire anywhere on the bike, it is only measuring voltage in the wiring, no actual flow of current through it. millions of digital ones out there for under 10 bucks

 

I ran mine from the battery through a fused relay; I use the same source for heated hand grips and wanted them to shut off with the ignition. The relay is triggered from the tail light.

To be honest you'll be looking for unusual voltage readings to spot if the regulator is failing, so whether you take it from the battery or some other more convenient source in the instruments or headlight won't matter, you just need to learn what "normal" looks like at that location.

 

I added this to the to do list-excellent idea to have a volt meter, pretty soon, I will have more junk on the vfr and need the gt tires just to carry all this stuff.:spy: lucky I am getting rich off BB troll money too.

 

I have a couple of Lascar spares, model emv 1125 - (more wires and functions) but will work perfectly. $25 shipped anywhere in the US. I will ship Int. but that will increase the cost.

 

Mine comes straight off the battery through an in-line switch. It's a bit messy, but simple.
