Bought my 2002 VFR last fall. I didn't get any of the tools for the bike. Can I get by without them when doing oil change and spark plugs? Just wanted to make sure there wasn't any specialty tool that was just for our bike.

The spanner for adjusting the chain is nice to have.

Is the spanner used to prop the gas tank up too? Can I use a block of wood or something out of an average tool box instead?

The spanner is a type of wrench included in the OEM toolkit. It is used to adjust drivechain tension.

Someone here will guide you to a download of the shop manual for your bike.

If you bought your bike last fall and have been riding it, your chain needs attention. There are several methods to adjust the drivechains including a flatblade screwdriver or a drift. The spanner is the better tool

If you bought your bike through a dealer some of them pull the toolkits out and re-sell them.

You might need a strap wrench to change out the oil filter.

I prefer to use a cut length of 1/2" wood dowel instead of the metal tool.

A chunk of an old tire will prevent scratching when used as a prop. There are some rubber attenuators that isolate the tank. They have a tendency to fall off and get lost. What Honda calls them , not a clue.

Meta tools for this use are not a good idea.

    Hamiltonfighter,

The OEM spanner is still available if your interested. Any online retailer thats sells OEM parts should be able to get it, as well as any Honda dlr. Costs about $40 +/_ for the spanner & handle.

I just use my snap-on rubber shot filled mallet, and I can always use it as a weapon too :rambo: :chaingun: :pound:

Never had to prop up my viffer tank, when I do take it off, I rest it on an old tyre, so the petcock dont rest on the concrete. Thats just me though, ice-hunchin
