I have an 85 vf700f interceptor and need to replace the engine.
I found this really sweet engine (racing engine), but it is an 85 vf1000r engine. Can I swap out my engine with this engine or will there be major consequences?
Please any help would be awesome.
    Thanx

anything can be done.......... but you should find a 700 to go back in.... it also depends on if the bike is truely worth it. you might be better off looking for something a little newer......rather than sinking money into it...

    BTW........whats wrong with the engine?

The R engine would fit... kind of. Once in place, the rear cam cover cannot be removed. I'm also thinking that one of the front two mounts doesn't line up, but I can't remember for sure. I agree that unless you really want something custom then getting a VF700F engine is the best idea. Good luck!

One of the pistons blew out and the bike is still a virgin only 15000 miles on it

Your bike has to be at least an 84. That was the first year for the 700's. An 83-85 750 or 84/85 700 will fit. Same exact cases and basic motor. Agree with Jamie on which engine. Where do you live? Interested in selling your old motor?

As mentioned above, yes but there are some issues with doing that.
