I lost a cylinder on my '84 vf500 and have had a heck of a time finding a replacement engine. My mechanic is looking for a used one to get and get a warranty for it. We've had no luck even though I have found some private sellers. Does anyone know what other engines will fit in this frame that wouldn't require major work on the frame to get it in?
VF500C motor will fit. slightly different in performance numbers, but more low end. there's one on ebay right now, around $600 with 21K miles.
I have a whole 84 VF500 for sale for $500 but it also needs work. Maybe between the two you could build something good. Mine starts and runs but I think #3 cylinder has a problem. Anyway, if you are interested, there is an ad on craigslist in the san luis obispo area. oh, and i saw a complete and currently in service as a commuter vf500 for $1000 in the san francisco area on craigslist.
I'm not the seller of the one on ebay. I just know it's there- I'm looking for one too, but the right one for the right price.
