    Hi guys,

So here is the deal we (my dad and I) have a vfr 700 (according to the vin) that goes over 180. Yes 180. How do we know? Well he has gotten clocked by a cop doing over 180. (according to the cop) He pulled over for a little too long on an off ramp and the cop that he didn't know was behind him caught up to him.

Here is the backstory. Back in the day(late 80's) he worked as a motorcycle mechanic and someone brought in this bike said someone stole and he got it back in pieces and he didn't want to deal with it anymore. My dad ended up trading his brand spanking new seca 2 for it. He put it all back together and he got the above mentioned beast. He eventually opened his own mechanic shop and worked on motorcycles until the city told him having a motorcycle shop was making the city too loud (it was a small city). Anyway, he is a do it all mechanic, he did rebuilds on carbs, engines of all shapes and sizes and said the vfr was the best bike he had ever been on. He rode it until that day with the cop and then he parked it.

About 10 years later it still being parked and not ridden or taken care of it was stolen. Eventually we got it back but they rode it around (I saw it once flying down the highway). Anyways we got it back in pieces and you can tell they just started it and hot rodded it a around he didn't want to try and rebuild it just wait til we find another one for sale and just have a parts bike. We eventually found a really good one for sale same year same motor but his was sitting for a while and needed work. After swapping parts back and forth we got it running and he got on it to ride it around and he came back saying some thing was wrong with the bike it didn't have power everything else worked as he remember just no power. So we did more work to it trying to restore it back to its glory. I did some research on here and found that we basically have a stock 86 vfr and what he was riding around was something else. That is what i'm trying to figure out here. I did alot of digging on here and just haven't found anything that would explain what we have.

I have searched the VIN and it is JH2RC2610GM000192 and nothing comes up to convince me of what we have. The motor is stamped 699cc but from what I can dig up there is nothing that can explain it other than someone that knew what they were doing went through it and turned it into what it is now. I have seen on here the references to the 6x or the NW6 but from what I can gather those are 750 vfrs? We have not dug into the motor because of various projects we have to do before we can get back to it again. We didn't put the old motor in when we first did this because it has 30k miles on it and the one we just bought has 2k on it.

Anyone know? Or have any ideas. The bike looks exactly like a stock red, white and blue vfr and both motors have the brown (sand color) covers on them (which we thought identified it as the fast motor).

I am a proud owner of my original VF750, which I can attest to the fact that at the 10,500 rpm redline will do only about 125. At 536 pounds and 86 horsepower it was lucky to do that in 1985!

km/hr maybe? Remember, you can be anything you want to be......but, you'll never have a 1986 VFR700 that will do 180mph.

112 mph. At least we are back to a place where the sky is blue and doesn't have unicorns flying around farting rainbows.

That cop may want to check the gears in the speedo of his radar ... he may need to dyno the triaculator valve.

I guarantee this story does not involve KPH.

    The cop was using BPS
    Bullshit Per Second.

You don't "clock" someone you're chasing. You "pace" them. Clocking is using 2 reference points that you know the distance between and timing how long it it takes to cover the distance. Usually from a helicopter or appropriate vantage point. Then doing the math to determine speed.

If I'm ever in court, I'm subpoenaing the last calibration of the radar dyno and the certs on the triaculator valve.
    "Case dismissed!"

Haha you guys are awesome! So what you are saying is put a unicorn horn and fill the bike up with baby unicorn tears and I'll hit 180 again in 4th gear?

Okay okay I get it 180 is unrealistic. It's what the cop said and it's not like you can look down at the speedo even if it gives an accurate reading. I know it's not stock just trying to see if there was a popular kit or something that was done to the bike
