I noticed that my valves seemed to be a bit noisy lately. I know it's a robust motor, but is this something indicating a valve adjustment?? I've kept up with the oil changes, but I haven't done the plugs since I bought it...I've got 14k on it now but I bought it with 6k on it. Do you guys change oil weight at all? Notice any difference with the heavier weights??? I've stayed with OEM recommended specs... Thanks in advance!!

    Year?

If I remember right, Hanyes manual has service interval suggestions by mileage.

Your coming up on your Valve adjustment period. I believe its at 16K.
I'm about 1K overdue for this service, just haven't had the time yet.
...though I dont have the "tick", but then again every bike is slightly different.

What kind of gas do you put in it?
I've had a few bikes and if I ever put cheap gas in them I always without fail would get either "engine ping" or "ticks" or even both sometimes
immediately after re-filling the next tank with premium gas (92-93 oct)
I would notice a difference and the bike would quiet down again.

    Just a thought..
    Steve

Sounds to me like you have valves sticking.

The one thing I have done religiously over the years in my cars, boat and motorcycles is to add "Marvel Mystery Oil" to my oil changes.

One time a neighbor who had a Porsche 928 (like the one I have now) asked me to listen to his motor idling (with a ticking sound).

While it was running we poured some Marvel Mystery Oil into the engine and about 3 minutes later the ticking disappeared.

I occasionally add a little MMO into my '98 VFR gas tank.

So far my '98, with a little over 10,000 miles sings like a brand new machine.

Here is some more information on MMO...

    http://www.jamestowndistributors.co...duct.do?pid=545&familyName=Marvel+Mystery+Oil

Years ago two of my friends and I all had the same 1978 Yamaha XS1100.

They didn't use MMO but I did. Strangely, after two years their mufflers started to rust out on the bottom area where moisture builds up, but mine didn't.

I'm not sure if MMO had anything to do with it but we all rode in the same area , under the same circumstances.

Turned out to be the brand oil I was using. I changed the oil with some genuine honda lub and she quieted right down. All I can hear now are the fuel injectors.... Thanks for the help anyway
