I am new to the website and tried to search on any info regarding frequency of Valve adjustments. I purchased an 06 VF'r last year and noticed that my manual suggests a Valve adjustment at 16K (roughly 10 000miles) Bikes been running great with no problems> I've always held to the belief "If it ain't broke don't fix it" Am I just being cheap or should I spend the bucks to have it looked at? I called a local Honda shop and got quoted a ridiculous number.

I did my frist valve check and skip the 16K. The bike run and sound fine. Many members skip this service as well. Bases on the manual it is stating inspect valves.............adjust as needed. :)

If you are riding a 6th gen, then the ridiculous price quote was probably correct. Personally, I'd skip the valve check and risk it, bt that's just me. I am a cheap bastard. I am at 72000 miles on my 5th gen, and I have never checked them. (The bike had 35000 when I got it)

Wow reg you should ride up to TOEs house and have him check those for you...but just be careful of the dogs....They let the air out of your tires when your not looking...

I was wondering the same thing BH - My 06 800 makes a strange metal on metal slapping noise at idle when taking off every once in a while - Could this be valve related???
