I here chatter when the engine is cold. I also hear chatter or maybe a clicking noise when I let off the throttle.

Is this the valves needing to be adjusted?

OK not really my speciality. However, from '02 onwards the VFRs have chain-driven cams (gear driven from 86-01), and camchain tensioners tend to make a rattling sound when it is time to replace them. I'd suggest you search for posts/videos that have that info. If needed, its not a big deal to swap out the tensioners, and I understand they can fail in around 30,000 miles.

Thank you for the help. Listened to a youtube video and it is the same sound. Guess I'll add this to the list of things to do.

Any clues to the part number for the CCT? Are any brands better than others?

Not a clue. I did mine myself. No special tools required fairly easy to do just have to be careful / lucky not to drop the bucket into the engine - like I did lol
