I have an old-school Kryptonite. Fits in there like a glove on my 1995.....and no, they didn't come with one stock.

Nope - its a lock for the front wheel. When I first started riding the U locks were big enough to go around one of the wheel spokes and one of the fork legs. The latest type attach to one of front brake disks and are quite small - thats progress! The alternative is the modern versions of the good old chain and padlock!

If by U-lock you mean disk lock, I would like to add a warning. The ones that come with a light bungee cord attached to them are worth giving some thought to. You attach the lock to the front or rear disk, then run the cord up to the handle bar. It's a simple reminder that it's there. A riding buddy on a Ducati Monster, drove off with his attached to the rear disk and ran the thing around a revolution or two before, pardon the pun, locking up the rear wheel. Forgetting it’s there is easy to do.

that's always been my fear with them. I used one for a short period. It was even bright orange, but sometimes I would start the bike and then remember it was there. just one more step and I could have done some damage. I think the ones they're talking about are bigger and harder to miss, though...

    Advice for the disk lock:

Place it as close to the caliper as possible behind the direction it is going to go... like if you are going to leave forward, but the lock right below the caliper, if you are going to be backing out of a parking space, put the lock right above/infront of the caliper. That way if for some reason you forget, you can only get an inch or two of momentum before it stops you... less/no damage.

and use the stupid reminder coil on the throttle grip... it will remind you.
