I have two problems. After syncing the carbs I can't get it to idle right. It either want too idle too low like around 500 or it want to be at 2000.

The other thing which is driving me nuts is it leaks oil from the left side cover where the alternator is. I got a new gasket from Honda, tried making my own, swapped covers with my spare motor and today tried rtv sealant on the gasket and it still leaks. It leaks a good bit too. When I'm riding it gets on my shoe and the shift lever and I'm worried it's getting on the tire. Any ideas?

the carbs, I know nothing about....

sounds like you aren't getting a seal between your engine and your case (duh...)

take it back off, clean it good (but be careful that you don't make it worse!) and put it back on, with just a bit of that sealant on both sides of the gasket and a fresh gasket (if your new gasket is still good enough, let it go) and make sure your bolts are tight enough (check manual for torque specs).

if that doesn't fix it, make sure your covers aren't warped (check both) and then you may have a problem with the engine itself....

    in that case......man.....that sucks.....

I don't understand it.It doesn't seem like it should take a really tight seal since there's only a little bit of oil in there.

haha, but it does need a tight seal, I promise

it's obviously not sealed enough ;)

just make sure you clean it up really good and then put a fresh gasket on with that RVT sealant, you should be sealed up if it's going to seal. If it won't, you may have a crack or something in your block

Yeah, I'm thinking you're leak is elsewhere. Can you wipe everything clean and pinpoint the source just to make sure?

I know on my old Z1 that cover tends to leak where wires route in around a grommet. Not sure if that's something possible on your bike.
