Trail Tech Motorcycle Computer

Did you go up or down on the number of teeth on your sprockets on your pre 1995 VFR? If so, your speedo is probably not telling you the correct speed. Since pre-95 instrument clusters do not have electronic speedo's, but instead are cable driven, you might consider converting to electronic, which could be costly. There is an alternative.

I purchased from Aerostich.com($77.00 + S&H) (also available at Trailtech.com($ an Endurance 18 function motorcyle computer.



The one from Aerostich is for "Generic Inverted Forks", Trail Tech part number 700-20. On Trail Tech, they also have a 701-20, which may be more suited to conventional forks. I had no problems with the USD kit (*NOTE: Pics on the Trail Tech site may not be the actual kit). It comes with a parts kit that has the magnets and the mounting brackets for handlebar mounting



and the cable kit which has the sensor and the actual holder for the computer.



The install is pretty straight forward. I zip-tied the magnetic sensor to the fork leg since I had no real mounting point.



There is also a magnetic bolt (in which you are instructed to drill the rotor, but I chose not to) and a smaller magnet which looks like a watch battery. You can use epoxy or another substance to securely attach the small magnet.



The you route the cable and and holder up to the handlebars, mounting it either onthe right or left bar. I chose the right. A point of note, there may not be enough room to mount it on the right without the possibility of pinching some wires, so the left side might be best. I intend to move mine to the left bar.

Follow the instructions to calibrate for the correct wheel size, in millimeters, enter the mileage from the odometer. The instructions are simplistic and not always clear but if you read them its not hard to do.

Notice in this last pic that I did not tighten up the bottom bolt for the brake lever perch. I lost it. So make sure you tighten up those bolts! :wink: :thumb:

I will do a review in a few weeks and let you know how it works.

Old post I know, but these things work great. I use them on all my dirt bikes. Their new Vapor model even has engine temp and rpm capability.

I use the Trail Tech computer on my dirt bike and had one on my race bike. Good quality product at a reasonable price.

 

Yeah, I hear ya on the YZs....awesome for MX, a little too hot for trail riding, they're just begging to go fast. From what I understand, a Rekluse clutch goes a long way towards making the YZs more trail friendly, might want to check that out.

Nope, no VFR in my stable right now. The R6S suits my need at the moment and weighs less. This does not mean I will never own another VFR or that another one is not in my future or that I don't love them anymore. I have always love the VF/VFR's. Besides, they are Honda's and no matter what, Honda is #1 in my book (though they could cut the weight on the VFR). :strong:
