hey all, have as '83 vf750f. wondering about some of the basic tools/gear i should be riding around with for any unexcpeceted problems or maintainence. Cant get my hands on a genuine tool kit for now so just needed a short list of the MOST important stuff i should have on the bike. Im not mechanically inclined but it wouldnt make sense for me to struggle into a garage only to find they didnt have the right tools. I dont know if the same tools can be used on my bike as for other generation hondas.....are they compatible?
You know, there are some great little toolsets in the back of neary every cycle catalog I get since I am on their mailing lists from who knows where... Anyway, I don't know about your model, but on mine, there are a couple specialty tools that you need like for adjusting the chain and I'm not sure where you'd get those, but I would think you pretty much have to have it. I could be wrong since mine came with it, I have never really looked. I know You definitely need hex wrenches for mine, at least 2 diff sizes but it's easiest just to get one of the sets where they are all in a foldable wrench. a phillips and flathead screwdriver... metric wrenches 10mm-17mm 20mm 32mm crescent wrench, needlenose pliers, channel locks, vise grips, tire tools (2) then also for toolbox but not on bike, impact driver, torque wrench. Those should cover the basics I think.
the majority of the nuts and bolts are going to be 8mm and 10mm, a flat head and phillips head screwdriver, channel locks, needle nose pliers, crescent wrench, vise-grips should get you out of most binds
