Hi Guys. I have a question for any 1 out there who might have a suggestion/opinion:eek:. I have an 88 vfr 750 which I have had less than 6 months. Runs pretty well in my opinion, but my basis for comparison is limited. It's too cold to ride now but, after having the bike about a month, I had to replace the battery(ran it dry as I am from a maintainence free world). The new battery is a wal mart special and I noticed I have to add water frequently.(every couple of rides maybe close to 200miles). Also at night the headlight varies in degrees of brightness from;a little dimmer than expected to;thats pretty bright. If it were a car I'd suspect an alternator or something, so not being that familiar with bikes I would suspect r&r. Is it likely the battery is causing this? I cannot be certain if the light changes were present prior to replacing the battery.

Could be bad contacts somewhere, but needing to add water suggests that your R/R may be overcharging the battery as you suspect.

Charging voltage should not be more than about 14.5v

R/R's are a common problem on the VFR's... Get a voltmeter and see whats going on.
