I am looking to replace the rear tire on my 96 VFR 750.

I got excellent wear from to Contiforce. Have a Dunlop Spormax up front.

Michelin Pilot Road sounds like a good replacement and may be a step up from the Conti.

    Any suggestiions?

Also can use a suggestion of a reputable source to buy from.

Will dealers in So Cal mount tires not purchased from them?

    Pilot?

I have Pilot Road on my 00 VFR which replaced Pilot Sports and I love them but I haven't tried anything else. Seem to wear reasonably well though grip wonderfully.

I'd be getting another Dunlop, make it the Q thou. I'm not one to have two different brands is what I'm saying, and the New Q is a great tire.

I get decent wear from Contis for less price and they stick better than my pilot roads. The pilot roads went more miles, though and I hear they stick better in the wet although you and I don't have that worry. I usually like to match brands also, but to each his own right... You can get the tires mounted that you bought from someone else, but it usualy negates the savings from online ordering. You could change them yourself. It takes some getting used to but it's not too awful. ;) If you are up this way, Powerhouse (paso robles) gets the cost fairly close to mail order if you let them mount them for an additional fee and bring them the tire. I almost just paid them last time instead of doing my own because it was like 20-$25 diff...

I have the new Dunlop Qualifiers on mine, both front and rear. The rear has around 4500 miles or so on it and is wearing well. It also has good grip on it and it does not take long to heat up as far as I can tell. I got my rear at bikebandit.com for a total for $125 shipped (I had the benefit of a 6% AMA discount) which was the advertised price of the tire.
