can someone tell me what the operating range is for the temp..... i'm seeing numbers over 200 and starting to wonder what is the thermostat temp. And is there a fan on these and when does it kick on and off.. Oh btw this is a 6th gen i am wondering about
Normal. As long as they do not climb over 230F on a regular basis, or at least does not cool down from 230 once the fan turns on. The 6th gen has a ~180F if I remember correctly, and the fan turns on ~225F I believe. These bikes run hot. There is a discussion here (160 thermostat) about ways to cool our bikes down. Some have installed a VTR100 pusher fan instead of our current puller fan. Issue is, our stock fan works well when bike is stopped (0 mph), pulling cool air in from the outside, but once above 10 mph, it fights the natural flow of air from the front of the bike. The VTR fan helps this issue. Of course, having a fresh coolant, or even better "engine ice" will help your bike stay cooler.
