I was searching for parts on Ebay, and I noticed that someone is selling a tail riser for the 90-93, and 94-97 vfr's. What exactly is a tail riser and what do they do for your bike? Does anyone have this already?

I saw them as well from some fella in Germany. From what I understand, it will raise the rear end which creates more peg to ground clearance (which we need). It also reduces the amount of trail on the front end which makes it steer quicker. As a consequence the bike is less stable, the age old compromise.

They are asking quite a bit for a simple looking piece.

I'd rather lower the bike to make it handle better and look better. I haven't been able to drive my vfr yet so I don't know how it will handle and steer. You would think lowering it would make it steer better as well just like a car. It does look a little expensive for a simple piece.

Lowering the bike will not make it handle better. It will throw off the steering and suspension geometry and reduce the available lean angle. The only reason to lower the bike would be for drag racing where you want to limit suspension travel, keep the nose down (sometimes with limiter straps) and turning is not an issue. I rode a CBR600RR last year that was lowered (put about two hundred miles on it). It handled really bad, dragged the pegs and fairings and was generally a pain in the ass on the street. It was lowered for the owner because she was really tiny so it made sense for her but it really handicapped the bike. You will not see any AMA superbikes lowered, if anything they are the exact opposite with the rear end jacked up to increase steering response and shift weight bias towards the front end.

On the other hand, if you like the way it looks and it works ok for you, have at it. :bolt:

    Hi all,

    I'm looking for a tail raiser for a 1993 - RC36.
If someone knows about one, please tell me.
Is there some other piece that works? I read that the dog bone of the CBR 900 RR work's on the 98's (but my is a 3ยบ gen).
    Thank you all.
