Is this a dry compression check or a wet one?

Best bet is a leakdown test - if you get air hissing out of the pipe(s) you have an exhaust valve problem, carbs an intake valve problem, the crankcase rings (remove the oil fill cap and listen), and bubbles in the coolant are a head gasket issue. If you want to stick with a compression test, be sure when you have the throttle rolled wide open you have no obstruction or partially closed plate in the intake tract for the low cylinder (not likely, but it's easy to check).

Some of the bargain price LD testers operate at low pressures - something like 20 or 30 psi. You shouldn't lose more than 5% to 10% to leakage, so even 10% of just 20 or 30 psi can be hard to measure or even outside of the range of error of the gauge. A good LD tester should run at about 100 psi input -which also makes it easy to figure the leakage %. Just be sure each cylinder is on compression at TDC and it should reveal the issue. There are lots of youtube videos of the procedure that are helpful.

How does it run? Does it smoke? If it runs good and does not smoke like your a bee keeper, I say ride it like you just freshly stole it. My two pennies.

I agree. Don't get hung up on the numbers. Try top ending the bike. If you get close to the speed others get there can't be too much wrong with it can there? Those compression testers are pretty inaccurate too. Try another one and see what you get.

runs great no smoke no hesitations it even idles better than last year .
think i'll do what toe cutter said run it like i stole it.
was told that the rings take time to break in just not sure how many miles.:cheersaf:
will do a leak down later and a compression test soon as i can get some ride time in and put some miles on it. and will repost the results.

the highest and lowest are all within 15%

may get closer as rings and walls break in

wouldn't be concerned in the least.

Could be 300-500 miles b4 rings are fully bedded-in.

are you holding the throttle wide open when doing the compression check something as simple as the carbs being a lil out of sinc will cause a discrepancy if the throttle isnt held open
