    Hey all,
I just completed the installation of my new Cam-chain tensioners from Dave Dodge Racing, they are awesome, and the install went smoothly. I had a rattle in the engine between 3-4 thousand RPM before the new cam chain tensioners and The rattling noise is still there! I did not mess with the valves, or anything else on the tensioner install. A buddy of mine thinks it could be the exhaust gaskets, but to me it sounds more like a rattle than a ticking sound.

does anyone have any suggestions or ideas what this could be? I have to go back and replace the cam cover gaskets, as the rear is leaking, so i will be taking the bike back apart.

The bike is an 83 V45 Interceptor, with 32,775 miles.

    Any help is appreciated

i dont know if this will help i'm not really familiar with this engine. most engines with timing chains have like a hard plastic guides the chains ride on between the gears and the tensioner usually is pushing on one of them to create the tension. if the engine has these are they grooved or the plastic worn away? i have found in automotive engines it doesnt take much for this style to make noise with worn chain guides. like i said not for sure but maybe it'll help. good luck

The 1st gen Honda V-4's just have a little rattle. Good luck getting it out. I have a '82 Sabre and a '83 Interceptor, and they both rattle a little, and have for years. If your cams and rockers are good, there is little you can do to lessen the noise.

The Cams are slilghtly pitted on a couple of the lobes, nothing major, I am hoping to get one more riding season out of it as a full time bike. I have not checked the rockers, anything in particular i should be looking for on them?

I have the same bike and there's a loud rattle from the front cylinder at idle. At throttle the noise is less but still there. I found that the cam chain guides in the front cyl were completely worn out. I'm looking for a replacement set, as the price from the stealer is over $100 !!
