6 Gen Steering Damper Can you post some info, like model, part number, where to find it?, some pictures also, will be nice! thank's
I installed one after a low speed bit of headshake on a new 6th gen (no wheelies or anything). I never thought the VFR was prone to that sort of thing, but it was a costly lesson to learn. I made the problem worse by fighting the bars (or gripping them too tightly in the first place). Now the damper is interesting - if set at a useful rate, it makes handling the bike feel a bit like riding with a dead cat slung over the front fender. It also makes filtering (lane splitting) hard as wing mirror to wing mirror weaving requires a fair bit of muscle! Fitting it is easy - about 5 minutes work. Sorry no pic - she's in storage at the other end of town for winter.
Thanks for that guys - Im just after some info on what type of Damper to install, and how as I dont have one on the Gen 4 ( how to fit and where to fit, what additional hardware I need to buy) Repsol04 - Thanks for the headsup, If anyone has any pics too that would be great. Im also after the Paint color for the later model V's, that black metallic color as Im looking to respray, so a code would be useful Thanks fellas - Have a great New Years
Steering Damper Mayhem. Marcosdm,I've got a GPR V1 steering stabilizer installed on my '03 VFR800. It's a top-mounted rotary style stabilizer that's super easy to use, completely rebuidable, and infinitely adjustable. The V1 kit that I used is actually supposed to be used on the '03-'04 CBR600RR. The kit bolts right on to the 6th gen. VFR800 with one easy modification. I've got a thread in the Modifications Forum titled "6th gen. V1 Steering Stabilizer Install" with pics and installation instructions. Here's a quick pic for you. :focus: VFighteR,I used to own a '97 VFR750 but I sold it before I ever got around to installing a steering damper. I was never able to find a manufacturer who made a dedicated steering damper kit for the 4th gen. bikes. However that doesn't mean you can't make your own kit. There are several manufacturers that offer steering dampers in various lengths so you can do just that. HyperPro,Daytona, and Shindy are just a few that come to mind. What I was planning to do was use a side-mounted tube style steering damper like the one I have mounted on my Ducati 900ss. You'll need to get yourself a fork leg clamp so that you can attach the steering damper to the left fork leg. They are available. Then you'll need to machine a threaded lug to attach the steering damper to the frame rail. That's going to take a little bit of work to do,but it's not really that hard though. Here are a couple pics of the side-mounted steering damper that I have on my little Ducati 900ss. Something like this might look particularly cool on your streetfighter project VFighteR. Here's a pic of the threaded lug that's welded onto the frame rail of my RC51. The frame came right from the factory with that lug welded onto it. I don't use the side-mounted position to mount the steering damper on my bike, but I have seen other RC51 owners that do. With the fairing panels already removed from your bike VFighteR,positioning and welding a lug onto the frame rail should be very easy to do. One other option that you might consider is the top-mounted steering damper set-up VFighteR. However you'd need some pretty SERIOUS machining skills to make the mounting brackets for your bike. This is a typical example of a top-mount kit. This particular steering damper kit is made by Matris Racing and is mounted on my RC51. The damper body itself is made of Titanium, the steering damper rod is coated with Titanium Nitride, the damper rod is supported by oilless slide bearings for near zero friction,it has an external pressurized Nitrogen gas reservoir,it's speed sensitive and is 18 position adjustable. This thing is just about as trick as they come. Think BIG $$$ if you want to do something like this though VFighteR. Hope this helps you. Good Luck with your streetfighter project.
