Well let me ask this, Can I take it off and still have my bike work, minus the original speedometer? I don't want to take it off if I don't have to.

I won't be needing it where I'm going... I just need the wheel assembly/brakes to work. My speedo will be on a custom PDA display.....

Nothing on the bikes engine electrics are through the speedo so dump the useless heavy thing, the only time you need to know your speed is when the law pull you over and they'll tell you that for free.

There's no other way to remove it than mechanically unless you're some sort of zen master!!! :) lol. Which part of the speedo doesn't work? is it the speedometer itself or the drive at the wheel, if it's the speedometer just take it out of the clock assembly, if it's the speedo drive at the wheel just remove the cable and all will be well.

you're not understanding me I think....

I want to know if I can remove it so I can sell it to someone that needs it without consequences. I don't need the tach on the front, I have one on the rear motor.... the DC motor I'm putting in it, has a tach on it, direct drive to the rear sprocket, so I don't need the front. I have a different type of tachometer.

Since I won't be using the front, can I remove it, reassemble the front end, and drive without it on there?

I clarified this a while back, I know I have to "mechanically remove it"... I want to know if its OK if i remove it.

I hope this answers your question. i think you can remove it without consequence. i think you might have to put a spacer there that is the same size as the speedo so everythign lines up properly...cause just using the logic of the F2/F3 swap, F2 uses speedo on 1 side and spacer on the other, F3 doesnt have a speedo. Just a spacer on each side.

I'll keep it for now, and take a look at it in the future, I need to get the bike running first.

After reading the next post I understand what you're trying, the speedo drive unit on the front axle also doubles as a wheel spacer, if you remove it and replace with a spacer of the same width then no problems, I did it years ago on a cbr600fl, I'll have a look and see if i still have the spacer dimensions and i'll post them up here.

Making a spacer is no problem. I'm trying to remove anything I don't need.
