Hey Guys I am getting ready to turn my 3rd Gen into a sick stunt bike and want to know what is the best way to cave in the gas tank so I have somewhere to plant my foot when standing on the bike. Ha Ha Ha, I'm just kidding I would never ever do that to "Pearl" LOL !!!! My real question is this...I am thinking about having my wheels powdercoated and want to know if the powercoating process will cause any issues when fitting the new wheel bearings. I also assume that the rotor bolt holes would be covered by the powercoater prior to the process being done? Can someone please explain the process to me since I've never had wheels powercoated before. What prep work would I need to do prior to having this work done. Thanks in advance.

    Regards,
    Rollin

I have never had it done but have been thing about it. I just figured that I would have to hone the baring surface after the fact.

I sent Toxic a PM. Can anyone else provide some input on what prep work I would need to do before taking the wheels to have them powder coated? I also would like to know the approximate cost for the powdercoating.

    Regards,

Yep, What the shop will do is mask all the areas that are toleranced. I dont know what they use to mask with ,however I know that is the way its done. I believe all extra pieces ,such as wheel bearings and the like need to be removed before the PC process, hope this helps. eddie

Rollin, Powder coat is apolyester powder that is applied as a mist, for lack of a better term. The powder sticks becauce of a negative electrical charge applied during spraying. Then the ground(charge) is removed and the part is baked. You have to protect tight tollerence surfaces,so bearing bores, etc. have to be taped off before applying powder.A light sand blasting was necessary wheni had my wheels done.If your powdercoater knows his shit, you will be fine.I recommend doing a little investigating before you choose one.Toecutter had his done, and they fucked them up!

    bone heads

You need to go by and look at work that is already done and look to see if the ass clown doing your wheels is taping off the rotor mounting surfaces and bearing bores. That is the best way to tell, the butt potato that did mine said he would but did not, not a total disaster but it is a pain to clean back off.

my '95 had powder coated wheels. It still chips. Couldn't ever get the place where the brake rotor seats to be 100% flush. I wouldn't. just paint.

You'll need to use a tap to chase the threads in the rotor bolt holes, and it might be best to leave wheel bearings in.......prior to removing and replacing them after work is done.
