Hello Everyone. I have a 99 VFR 800. It's a new bike to me. Question. When I start from a complete stop, such as a light or stop sign, as the clutch is almost completely out, there is a rattle/crackle sound from directly in front of the gas tank. Down low, below the head light hight. It sounds metalic not electrical to my untrained ear. It stops once the bike is moving and RPM's raise to/above about 3k. I don't hear it in any other gear. Although it could be drowned out by the engine noise. Honestly it sounds like something metal is loose and rattling around and I could reach down inside the fairing and grab it. I haven't founf anything, mechanic either. Any idea's? Thanks !
Hey Willa The noise you are hearing may be the flapper valve opening and closing on the air box. It is just under the tank near front of air box. Check out out the following thread and see if it is the same noise as what you are talking about. http://vfrworld.com/forums/showthre...-valve?highlight=Flapper+valve+mod+on+5th+gen
Zoom-Zoom! I do believe that is exactly what I'm hearing! :eagerness: Thanks for putting a name to it. I read about the variable air intake system in the service manual. Thank You! :smile-new:
