Smartphone Mount

Hi Folks,
I'm looking to get a a mount for my Iphone 7+ on my 5th Gen . I've seen the RAM fork stem mount with the universal X-grip. Any one with other mounts to suggest? Thanks for the inputs.

 

I had a wireless charging mount with a broken suction cup. the mfg replaced it and I 3D printed the ball mount.

Turned out to be a 17mm diameter ball used by garmin.

RamMounts also make a handlebar U-bolt mounting that works great for mounting where the tank
bolts are. You throw away the U-bolt and use the flat bar to bolt to the tank mount area. Use some
longer bolts and away you go.

Not sure if that's the correct one, but that's the general concept. I can look through my order from way
back when and see what the correct number is if you need it.

Your right. I can’t say that there is any real reason to have the phone directly in front of my face.

That's what I use it for. And unless you are basically blind or your helmet has a drinking straw where the visor should be, you barely have to glance down for a ½ second to get your bearings. It is no different than glancing at your mirrors.

Anyway. I use a RAM mount with a fork stem adapter (adaptor is SW-Motech). Best option I have tried.

 

The same thing that is happening when you foolishly look down at the speedometer, mirrors, tach, or glance over your shoulder.
Simply no biggie, and beats the heck out of trying to use a map on a tankbag, and you can take that to the bank.

 

The main reason for mounting my phone is that it has a wireless charger.

I mean it’s not convenient to use the phone because of the riding gloves and the touch screen.

Kind of forces me to be hands free.

BTW.. Just remembered something that might be a factor.
I have used the same RAM mount and fork stem adapter on other bikes. On one of them I was hit by a car. Car did a illegal left turn from a parked position and plowed straight into the side of my front. Bike got slammed down, caught on the car and dragged (with my foot pinched under it) for about 25 yards.
I had my phone in the mount. Bike was totalled but the phone was still in mount. Didn't move a mm.

 

RAM mounts are the best. I personally use quadlock mounts because they are more secure than the RAM X-grip, they lock in and you need to press a lever and turn them to get it out of the mount. Quadlock also exists as a universal backing plate for phone cases (or without case).

 

I was looking for a good solution to mount my phone on the bike. While I've had good experiences with RAM ball mounts, I've never been completely happy with the X-grip I've had for a couple of years, so I looked for other options and found these on aliexpress. The bike side mount attaches to the clutch/brake reservoir clamp screws and the phone side mount is a universal adjustable one. I use a RAM mount arm.
