I keep reading the posts about sliders and racking my squirel brain trying to figure out what you guys are talking about without having to ask, but it is no use.

What in the world are sliders and what do they do?

They are a plastic (or metal, or other) pucks which are put in certain contact points on a motorcycle so that they will help absorb the damage from a crash (mostly from sliding on the pavement, hence the name "slider"). Instead of sliding on your engine case (or swingarm, or fairing), it will slide on the plastic puck sticking out on the side of your bike instead. Many times the fairing plastic will have to be cut in order to install the pucks at the appropriate location(s). Not really totally sold on them myself, as I have seen bikes slide a longer (and into the trees) because of the sliders reduced drag area, however, they can save you a lot of money in certain instances, or even if your bike falls over.
