Is there a list of problems inherent to the 6th Generation VFRs? I am trying to work a deal on a zero mile 2007 RWB VFR and I want to know what I am getting into before I buy it.

I have read a lot of posts about the Vtec, seems about 50/50 some like it and some dislike it. It seems that a lot of people get different bars (I'm looking at Heli's). I think I read somewhere about voltage regulator/rectifier problems. What else should I know other than the gear driven cam models are cooler sounding.

    Thanks, Tom N.

I've heard different opinions but generally the throttle is twitchy at low RPMs until you put 02 eliminators on it. The power commander also helps. I don't much notice the Vtec anymore. You can find threads though that talk about how much more a valve adjustment is because of the Vtec system.

    Good luck.

Mine is completely stock and I am fine with it as it is. This is the 3rd season for it and I've had no problems except for a bad shock that was replaced under warranty. Honda stands by their product.

There are no problems or issues with this generation. There are a bunch of tweaks you can do to suit your style or preference such as suspension springs, fuel delivery enhancements, seat upgrade and so on. Earlier models were the subject of a couple recalls but from 06 and up the recalls were already done at the factory.

    Thanks

Thanks guys for the info. It sounds very positive, looks like I will work a little harder to close the deal. Now a couple more questions.

What about ABS, is it worth it?

At what interval do the valves have to be adjusted and how much does it cost?

    Thanks again, Tom N.

Tom your innocence in asking all the BIG questions is awesome.

ABS is a topic that comes up quite a bit. You'll get both "camps" responding to whether or not it's worth it or not. The end result of all the threads is get it if you believe in it, don't get it if you don't.

I will say though, mechanically it is one of the, if not the best ABS systems I have ever used. Don't worry about the quality of the system, it's superb. It adds 11lbs to the bike however if your weight conscious rider. So again, if it's your thing, get it, you won't regret it. If it's not, don't.

Maybe the color of brake calipers will help ya decide:
    ABS = Gold.
    Non-ABS = Black

There ya go again with that strategic edit LOL .

The cost depends on your proximity to a good mechanic. Expect more than $300 all the way up to a grand if your unlucky.

You can adjust them as per the manual every 16,000 miles...
You can adjust them when you "think" they need to be changed...
    You can never adjust them...

It really depends. For the most part though after people have them looked at they're not really that far off.

    Edit what???

Boy, I can't get anything by you guys. Just after I hit submit, I always think of another question.

The extra few pounds the ABS weights is no problem as I am on the "hefty" side and max speed is not an issue.

I saw a pic on the site a few days ago of a '07 RWB with hard bags. I think he said he got them from David Silver spares. I have done several searches and looked through the photos for the pic but can't find it, any ideas?

    Cheers, Tom

I have an 06 with ABS. I am creeping up on 80,000 km (50,000 miles) And I have no regrets at all. They checked my valves at 25K km and they were fine. This fall I will be taking it in and spending a bit of money on it though. It runs fine but I have been totally chastised here for not having changed the oil in the forks. I got 25,k km out of my first sprocket and chain and am probably going to get new ones this fall. The chain is rattling a bit now.

I don't have the hard bags. This past spring I purchased the Cortech saddle bags and trunk bag. They worked great on my trip to Castadero. A warning though on this. If you put after market pipes on with soft bags, you will need to build some sort of rail to keep the bag straps off the pipes or they will burn. The heat shield on the stock pipes worked well to keep the straps cool enough.. They did not save the bike from scratches when i went down though. But then, maybe they did save it from more serious damage. The nice thing about the soft bags is that when they are off, you don't have the cage still on the bike.

BTW. I love the ABS. Panic stop...just hammer the brakes...either one, but best both.

Buy buy buy. And then enjoy

If you get abs it will be there if you need it. If you don't need it you will never use it or even know its there. From what I understand the abs only kicks in if either of the wheels actually locks up. Abs gives me a bit of a confidence that if I stomp on the brakes my wheels will still be turning under me. Some have a bit of a knee jerk hatred of abs. I see no real downside to it. It has been used very well on cars for a long time now. I do not hear about many people complain about it on them.
