Just pciked up a 1986 vf500 to-day in good shape. The only problem i see is that the front shock seal is leaking. I ordered a new one.

Can anyone help with instructions on how to replace it.

    thanks

What you have is a FORK seal leaking. The shock seal is on the shock.

If you are going to tackle the job yourself, get a shop manual specific to your bike. The manual (Honda OEM or Haynes) will give you detailed instructions on doing the job. Check Ebay for a manual.

NOTE: if you are going to disassemble one of the forks for seal replacement it's a good idea to do the other as well. No sense in having one leg with clean, fresh fluid and the other with whatever is now in it.

IMHO - The Haynes manuals are ok for levelling a workbench but that's about it. Next in line are the Clymer's, they are riddled with errors but sometimes offer unique ways to do things. Your best bet is the Honda Service Manual. Even if you already have one of the other ones you should still consider getting the Honda manual.
