greetings from houston...just recently purchased a 1999 vfr with 8000 miles on it and got my first speeding ticket the next day...am interested in obtaining service schedule for the bike, as I don't know if the dealer changed any fluids, ie oil etc...the manual I was given was a cd with stunt riders on it and no manual...any info would be greatly appreciated...thank you

You are a bit late, but welcome Peter! :) Congrats on the new VFR, but sucks about the ticket. Nice how they gave you a stunt riders video instead of a manual. Maybe they want you to crash trying tricks and have to get a new bike??

If you are not sure about the fluids, I would at the very least change the coolant (be sure to use a brand which does not have silicates in it, which can damage seals) and change the oil/filter to a good brand name synthetic oil. The valves don't need to be checked until 16K, and many times they really don't need to be checked until the second recommended check at 32k. This is because many times no adjustment is ever needed at 16k by many VFR owners.

Oh, and buy yourself a manual sir!

welcome to the site and let me second the recommendation for the Service manual. Personally, I use the actual Honda Service manual and it is excellent. It answers most of the questions you come up with during ownership, and the rest we can take care of here. You can DL the manual, but in my experience, it's hard to flip through pages on the comp when I'm all greasy... I like the paper manual for that and I dont want to print the whole damn thing out...

I have been using the Haynes Service and Repair Manual. I find it very useful and while it has tons of stuff in it I would probably never attempt, I like having access to that information to understand what the dealer is doing and why it might cost what it does for them to do their thing...

hehe. that's pretty funny. you'll get used to it. hard to believe some people say it's underpowered eh? the fact that these bikes go from 0-60 in around 3 secs impresses the hell outta me. I'm not a huge fan of high top speeds but I'll occasionally run it out for a short blast on a straight.

I hope I get use to it quickly...this is an expensive habit...at $100+ a pop, I either need to get a second job or the cops need to develope a sense of humor....
