The oil cooler lines on my VFR have been rusty for some time now, they look like sheeeit. I've got the bike partly disassembled for its second valve lash check/adjust and I'm thinking now's the time to do something about the rust.

I'd love to have 'em powder coated, but I'm not sure the flex portion of the lines would tolerate the heat. I guess if nothing else, I could clean them up with a wire brush and shoot 'em with Rustoleum.

Has anyone here dealt with this issue?

I remember when I first got my bike the lines were so dirty and rusted I didn't even know they were chrome. After cleaning and some steel wool they looked like new. Not sure how far gone yours are, but worth a try.

Try green Scotchbrite and WD-40 (or similar) as a first attempt at cleaning, only using stronger methods later if necessary. Last step metal polish on a rag.
