Running temperature ?

Just picked up a mint '98 VFR800 two hours ago.
Very different to my VTR1000.........
It seems to run hotter too - both felt in the crotch and on the guage.
What is a normal temperature for these to run at:
a) country running, 25 degree C day
b) stop/start city running 25 degree C day

should I worry if temp goes over 100 degrees ?

Howdy,

The fan kicks in around 220 F I think. Cut out at 210 F. If you are riding on a hot day, say 90+ F and are riding really hard, keeping the revs up above 7000rpm, then the temp will start to climb up into the 240-250 F range. I think it starts blinking at 252 F. You should probably slow down and run it at lower rpms for a few minutes, it will cool off pretty quick. If you are sitting in traffic on a really hot day, you might start feeling some serious heat on the underside of your right thigh. Moral, don't sit in traffic. Cruising down the highway in top gear at 80mph, I usually see from 175-190 F depending on ambient temps.

Ah, the downside to owning and riding VFR's. They are hot running bikes, nothing you can do. So, you will find out like the rest of us that riding these bikes over ambient temp's of 80 F and idling in traffic is no fun. As long as your moving everything should be fine. Follow Adios rules and you should not have any problems.

I guess you just get used to it - havent heard much about it before.
Will try a fitted sheepskin and report back how it goes.

 

Hi everyone. I have been lurking since I bought my 2000 in July. The web-site has been a great resource for my questions.

I am using my bike as a daily commuter and I am noticing as the weather cools I can not get the operating temp. to come up past 140. There is exeptions, but for most of my 20 mile commute the bike runs cold.

I started tearing in to the cooling system but thought I would post this dilema before I check the thermostat.

Anyone have some imput for me?

I just came back to this board because of a cooling question I was going to ask and saw this post., but it doesn't really answer my question.

I bought a 1995 VFR 750 this past fall. I ran it up until the cold weather forced it into hibernation for a couple of months. While running it in fall weather, the temp gauge never got up past 1/4 the way up the scale of the gauge. All of a sudden, the temp started to run up past 1/2 way up the gauge, and the electric fan is now kicking in, which it never did before. Doesn't make sense to me because I'm riding in cooler outside temps... so what's up?

Please reply ... I'm worried about my bike!
